Front Brake Squeal?

Hello All,

Looking for some help here ... My front brakes squeal like a stuck pig!! I took the pads out and ran them under a wire wheel in my bench grinder. It helped a little but when I come up to a stop light it's embarrasing!!

The bike only has about 6000 mis on it.

Any thoughts?!?

Thanks in advance.

Take the pads out and put some anti-squeal compound on the back of them. You should be able to pick it up at most any auto parts store like Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc. That should quieten the brakes.

Brent, by on the back of them do you mean on the pads themselve? Mine sound like horrible also.

Gary,
The stuff I've used comes in a small tube or packet. It'a a gel like paste you just smear on the back of the pads and then put the pads back on. It eliminates the vibration that causes the squeal. I did my brakes when the bike was about six months old and never had a sqeak. I'm putting new brakes on now and I'll put the stuff on again. Haven't checked the new pads I got from Rick yet but on the car and truck, the stuff usually comes with them.

Someone else posted this a long time ago... SBS shims cured my brake squeel. They adhere to the back of the pads...

Most of the time brake squeal can come from a few areas.

Cheap pads, sticking calpier piston and most common pads sticking on the pins that run through the caliper which will cause the pad to stick.

First thing to do is throughly clean the pads, calipers and pins. Then make sure the pins glide through the holes in the pads freely. If they don't reem the holes out in the pads a little.
