Oil Filters
The RSV filter thread size is 20mm x 1.5 thread pitch. Gasket O.D. is 2.475" There have been many discussions about using automotive oil filters on motorcycles. Some may work just fine, while others may not. This is a quote from Purolator about using their PureONE oil filters on bikes. QUOTE: If you're thinking you want to install a PureONE oil filter on your bike, please think again. PureONE oil filters are designed for vehicles, not bikes. Because of PureONE's high efficiency, the motorcycle oil pump may not be able to handle the pressure. The Purolator motorcycle filter line is designed to meet the specific needs of a bike; therefore we highly recommend the use of a Purolator ML filter over a PureONE oil filter." In comparing the Purolator M/C filter specs to similar PureONE automotive filters, the difference seems to be the relief valve (also known as bypass valve) pressure ratings. The ML16817 filter relief valve is rated at 9~12 psi. while the automotive filter is rated at 14~18 psi. Just for comparison, the Wix 51358 relief valve pressure is 8 psi, the Fram PH 6017A is 13 psi.
