Cruise ControlHi, About 6 months ago I finally purchased the bike of my dreams - Venture Royale, after having the "H" bike. Anyway, I make 2-4 trips per month of about 400 miles round trip. I couldn't wait to try out the cruise control that I had heard some many positive things about. Initially, the cruise began to disengage after about 100 miles, and then would disengage quite often have that. I took it to my shop and they said, "Gee, that's strange. It could cost thousands of dollars to find the problem." (not exactly pleasing words). So, I continued to ride it until it started to disengage within 10 miles. I took it back to the shop and they said, "Yeah, we could get it do disengage, but we don't see any problems." Additionally, it does not retain the speed that it was initially set at, so I have to go @5 mph faster than I want to travel, and the variation even in flat Texas is +-7 mph. So, has anyone else seen/heard/had this problem? The bike only has @55k on it. My heart was set on having an exceptional cruise that you set, and it kept it at the set speed +-2 mph. Thanks, Larry Boyd
I have experienced the same problem that you are having. If the clutch lever pivot bolt is not kept adequately greased, the pivoting action of the lever will cause the hole in the clutch lever to wear egg shaped and will prevent the clutch lever from pushing the interlock switch for the cruise control completely in. If you replace the clutch lever, this problem will go away. I replaced mine at 91k miles on my '93 after beating my head against the wall to solve the same problem.
Hi There, On your Venture web page, there was a guy named Larry_Boyd.hp.com, that had a problem with his 89 Venture Cruise Control. I have an 89 and had the same problem. It was the clutch control lever not fully disengaging. There is an electrical contact inside the lever that shuts the cruise off when the lever is engaged. When the clutch lever is released, sometimes that contact is not released. A good way to tell if this is the problem is to take the bike out and set the cruise and push the clutch lever all the way out and notice if the slightest movement of the lever will shut the cruise off. More than likely this will solve the problem without spending a ton of dough and you'll know what part to order for the dealer to install. People should beware of some shops with Ventures, since not all Yamaha dealers like working on Ventures. Byron Patton 89 Yamaha Venture Royale RE: Cruise Control ProblemsIn on the tech support page. I experienced the same problem and the remedy turned out to be changing the brake fluid in the clutch line. My bike is a '90 and the brake fluid was probably original. It was so gummy that the clutch lever wasn't returning to a full release position so that the cruise control switch was only intermitently switched. Even though the switch seems a bit loose everything now works fine. Good Luck Mark, dona.mark@mci2000.com Cruise Control FixSomething stupid that happened with my cruise control. I bought the very last model of Venture 1300 imported to Francez on November 2nd 1994. In January 96 the cruise control met some problems : it was self-disconnecting at 80 km/h (50 mph). I put the bike at the dealer's (warranty). One week : nothing. When in the garage, the cruise control was working OK. On the road : the same disconnection at 50 mph. Finally, the bike went to Yamaha Motor France main facility, they kept it 3 weeks (lending me a V-Max, thanks to them) and finally found the trick out in their wind tunnel. Diagnosis : the pressure of the wind on the clutch handle was disonnecting the CC, because of a weakness in the spring. Caramba ! que miseria ! Philippe Mollard Paris, France ajodo1ef@aol.com
