Q: Can anyone tell me how you test a reserve lighting unit? I looked in my manual but didnt find it. Thanks Yooper

Q: I would like to know just what the reserve lighting unit does. I can't find anything about it in my manual, except that it's there. Eddie Fulmer

A: Eddie...the reserve lighting unit monitors the condition of the headlight bulb filaments...if it senses that one has failed,it switches power to the other beam so you have a headlight without having to switch your dimmer switch. The "headlight" dash light will be on to tell you the reserve pilot has done this. The CMS also monitors the headlight circuit but only gives you a headlight icon alarm, it doesn't switch the power to the other filament. Neil86

Q: That helps me understand it much better. I must ahve a loose connection between the CMS and the low filament. It tells me the bulb is bad, but it isn't. I think I am in for a resolder job in the near future. Thanks a bunch. Eddie Fulmer PS If the CMS headlight indicator is on then the Headlight dash light should be on too. Right?

A: Re-solder the connections on the back of the CMS where the plug is (I speak from experience on this one) as mine did the same thing and i replaced the reserve lighting unit and still had the same issue. Resoldered my CMS and all is well again. Darkstar147
