Wheel Bearing Check |

Wheel Bearing CheckHave you or any of your group had any trouble out of the rear wheel left side (driveshaft) wheel bearing? My '92 bike has 60K miles and I have the rear wheel apart to replace the cush hub gear when I found this problem. A simple spin and feel and listen test showed nothing. Only when I removed the spacer collar and wiped away the grease could I see the pitted needles and they ALL are pitted. This type of bearing can fail suddenly at high rpm when pitted like this. It isn't from water damage or from lack of grease that this bearing is pitted,,,, it's from lots of miles carrying heavy loads at high speed (75 mph+). If you and any in your group fit this profile you might want to have a GOOD LOOK at your needle bearings. By the way, the right side wheel bearing is a meaty ball-bearing and is AOK..........Robert, Costa Mesa, CA
