Air Suspension Woes |

Air Suspension Woes1987 Venture Royale, 31,000 miles. On my Royale the air suspension is unreliable. When you attempt to set or adjust the pressure you must grasp the connector on the controller and hold the connector at an angle and with added pressure to get the controller to operate the system. I have checked the system throughout for physical and electrical faults; the above mentioned is the only thing that I've been able to do to get the system to function. I've dismantled the controller and the connector. The connector in the harness is intact and makes contact with the controller pins. The problem seems to be the controller. When you disassemble the controller there are only two circuit boards that are wired together with one of the boards having the connector to the harness.Has anyone experienced this problem and have any suggestions of what I might check or how to service the controller itself. I've checked with the local Yamaha dealer, who is not very knowledgeable of this bike, they gave me that your deer in the headlights look. They were not sure of the controller availability through any of their sources but said if one could be found it would be very expensive. Any ideas appreciated. .........Frank Baker, fbaker@crawdat.com AnswerSounds as if the circuit board or connectors are dirty. Clean all circuit boards with a cleaner (isoprophyl alcohol) also the contacts on the buttons. If it still doesn't work check the circuit boards for bad solder joints or breaks in the solder circuit. There are some of these at Bob in phoenix...no idea as to cost. ........Hank Yerger
