Harley-Davidson Tail Lights |

Harley-Davidson LightsBy Gary MaceOne of the popular options for adding more much needed tail/brake lighting to the RSV is to use a Harley-Davidson Chrome License Plate Bracket/Taillight Kit. I am not sure which member first came up with this great idea, but here is how I did it. There are two part numbers that will work for this installation. 68230-97A & 68230-88B. They retail between $150 and $170 but can be found cheaper at some dealers and occassionally on eBay. They are designed for the HD Ultra Classic. To install, first snip the connector from the Harley Light Kit wiring harness. This is designed to plug into a Harley, so obviously, this will not be used. There are two tabs located near the lower mounting holes. The light kit will install easier if you gently flatten those tabs. Remove your license plate. Splice the Harley Light Kit wires into the RSV tail and brake light wires located in the stock license plate holder. The BLUE wire from the Harley Kit gets spliced to the BLUE RSV wire. The RED wire from the Harley Kit gets spliced to the YELLOW RSV wire. Now simply bolt the Harley Light Kit to your bike using the lower license plate holes aligned with the stock license plate bracket. It is advisable to use a large washer behind the stock mounting bracket for a more secure mounting. The top of the Harley Light Kit is designed to mount to the Ultra's trunk frame but is not used or needed for this installation. NOTE: The Harley Light Kit gets the ground from the frame. Therefore, if you try to test the light before mounting it to the bike, it will probably not function properly.
