I have replaced the rear crash bar reflectors with a new LED light from JC Whitney:

I got the idea from Kent (V7Goose) while at the SCR V ride in. So all credit goes to him. I just thought I would pass this great idea on to others who are looking for a little extra visability at night.

Here's what I did
I removed the rear crash bars, unscrewed the 4 phillips screws that hold the reflectors on.

Next I gently pried the reflectors off the molding they sit into, they are held in place by double sided tape.

Here is a comparison of the two side by side. You can see there might be 1/16 difference between the 2, the one on the left with the wire coming out of it is the replacement.

You will have to drill a 3/8 inch hole in the mounting piece just below the hole that is already in the mount. Measure the distance between the little stub and where the wire will fit through. Once you drilled, clean the area and attach the new LED light feeding the wire through the new hole and putting the stub in the other hole.

Next take a wire and feed it through the end hole of the top portion of the crash bar, and pull it our one of the two larger hole where the reflector covers (there are 3 holes, one small one that helps secure the reflector with the little stub) Once you have pulled the LED wires through the bar, secure the new LED light. Now resecure the crash bar, feed the wires through the backside and connect to your power source to make them running lights. Once you have hooked everything up, you have taken reflectors and replaced it with 15 LED lights on the side for more visability. It took me about an hour to do this, the cost of the lights was $53.98 shipped. I am no electrical wiz, and I think almost anyone could do this. There is also amber lights if you think you want to replace the front reflectors. Also should mention that they have little chrome covers that will go over these lights for those who can't get enough chrome. These light are an exact replacement, you wont be able to tell the difference by looking at them.

Once again, thanks Kent for a great idea. I hope to see you at SCR 5 1/2 in October, I owe you a cold beverage of your choice.

Here's a picture of mine installed on the bag rails. Can't even see the wires from this high angle:
