Turn Signal Bulb Discussions

1157s - right??

Ponz

Stock trade numbers are:

1157s front running/turn
1156s rear turns
1157 rear brake/running

I don't have the info in front of me but head out to WalMart, AutoZone or Advance , etc and check out the bulbs bulb rack..

The stockers can be replaced with:

2357s and 2356s The turn/brake filament on the 6 +7s will have a bit more candlepower therefore the turn signals and brakelight will be brighter. The full time filament cp is same as on 1156s and 1157s.

The 3496 is also a dual filament option that is even brighter replacement option for the 1157s and 2357s... These are about 10 bucks for a pair at WalMart. The trade off is the brighter, the shorter the lifespan. I am running a pair of 3496s in the rear and they are definitley brighter in brakelight mode... paulmarsh

Well, my problem started when I noticed the front right turn signal not working. Thew bulb metal was filled with rust and the receptacle was corroded like I've never seen before.

I just attempted to replace both bulbs and noticed that there's a wire broken off the inside of the right bulb receptacle! Now what?

I'm trying to get this bike ready for some trips!! The receptacle can not be taken apart to mend the wire back in. So now it looks like I need to find some aftermarket gizmo to replace it with.

Any suggestions?

You've got passing lamps on your Venture, right?

wvventure

Yep - Passing lamps....Right signal bulb socket is rotted and needs to be replaced....

Kind of a design flaw.. the signals are normally horizontal, but when you move them to the passing lamp mounts, they 'hang' vertically. Water follows the signal wires right into the socket.

Use clear RTV to seal around the wire where it goes into the light housing, let it set up for a few hours before installing. Also... pull the lens from the housing, apply a light coating of RTV on the lens surface where it mates to the housing and leave the bottom inch or two unsealed.. use a little on the screws, too. - wvventure
