Removing the AIS

The complete removal of the AIS system is fairly straightforward. Quite simply, remove all the components and plug the elbows at the exhaust ports. To remove the metal pipes from the rear assembly, you will have to cut the connecting brace with a hack saw blade. It is soft metal and cuts very easily. To remove the front components, you will have to remove the radiator.

Once you remove the vacuum control hoses from the carburetors, the carb ports will either have to be plugged or connected to its front neighbor with a 3/16" I.D. rubber hose. See the article about connecting the carb. sync. ports under Carburetors.

The exhaust port elbows are plugged with 5/16" concrete anchors that are cut to length to fit into the pipe. Be sure to use a washer between the acorn nut and the pipe for a tight seal. This is so you don't have to use any kind of sealant, although some high temperature RTV silicone could be used if desired. Also, do not overtighten the nut or the the bolt will break. The ones I used seemed kind of weak considering that they are supposed to be for anchoring stuff into concrete.
